The future ecosystem of music
The music industry plumbing is old. The distribution of music has seen and explosion in democratization, yet the total infrastructure has seen little improvement. We leave behind us a gigantic carbon footprint of making everything available everywhere, but no-one stopped and asked if this is necessary or beneficial for any creator or consumer. Some of the old players have both been funding innovation but also holding it back, and we can only suspect it has been lucrative to not fix everything broken, since malfunction has left good money for their balance sheets. Yet, there is now an explosion of creator tools brewing that rewrites how we create, distribute and consume music. How can we make sure this gives us a healthier, more innovative and sustainable music industry?
