A fair distribution of income from music streaming

A fair distribution of income from music streaming What would it look like and how do we achieve it? Every year when reports on the streaming economy are presented, we discuss the fair distribution of the income. The reports keep showing that artists and songwriters are the losers among the recipients of the money. According to the new rules regarding "fair remuneration" from the DSM directive, artists and songwriters must receive "appropriate and proportional" income in relation to the economic value of their rights. But IFPI's latest report shows that the income is distributed between an increasing number of creators, where most of the income still goes to master owners, who make the big bucks. In any case, have we seen any effect of the new directives? Discussions about different financial models, such as artist-centric from Universal, Fan Powered Royalty from SoundCloud with Warner etc. have been going on for a few years now. Would the implementation of new models have a major impact on the distribution of income? Will they favor artists and songwriters over the major labels? A number of stakeholders have also proposed expanding the so-called Equitable Remuneration Right to ensure that artists and performers are more adequately compensated for streaming their music. What is the status here, and how will it affect the distribution of income from streaming? And then to the joker... - how do we separate what is "music" and what is "non-music", which today is part of the same economy. A large percentage of all streams come from audio in general, thus cannibalizing revenue for music. What can be done about the problem? These are exciting, and above all important topics around the streaming economy, which must be discussed and understood in order to influence those in power in the industry. We really look forward to hearing more from the panel's knowledge and insights.
